California man sentenced to eight years in prison for distributing child pornography in new jersey

TRENTON, N.J. – A California man who used his computer to send child pornography to an individual in New Jersey via email was sentenced today to 96 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Guy Wilks, 57, of Temecula, Calif., previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Anne E. Thompson to two instances of distributing images of child pornography using a computer located in his residence in December 2010 and January 2011. Judge Thompson imposed the sentence today in Trenton federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
Wilks admitted using his email account to send images of child pornography to a person in New Jersey. He acknowledged that among the images of child pornography he distributed were images which depicted minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct with other minors and adults. The criminal images were brought to the attention of law enforcement through another investigation that began in New Jersey. The investigation showed that in addition to emailing child pornography, Wilks engaged in highly disturbing online chats with other individuals regarding his interest in child exploitation.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Thompson sentenced Wilks to five years of supervised release and a $10,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Andrew M. McLees, with the investigation leading to today’s sentence.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Wolfe of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.
